Hofmeister XIX is an online, searchable version of the Hofmeister Monatsberichte (Monthly Reports) for the years 1829–1900. With approximately 330,000 records of music publications, it is the most comprehensive resource for establishing when and where Western music scores were published during this period, including both ephemeral works and widely known compositions in multiple editions and arrangements. Each record links to facsimile images of the original Monatsberichte on the website of the Österreichische Nationalbibliothek (Austrian National Library). Hofmeister XIX was originally developed through a collaboration between Royal Holloway, University of London, and the Centre for Computing in the Humanities (now King’s Digital Lab) at King’s College London, with funding from the UK Arts and Humanities Research Board (now Arts and Humanities Research Council). Until 2011 the project was maintained by CCH, and thereafter by its successor departments at King’s; RILM acquired Hofmeister XIX in 2025.

Please note: Hofmeister XIX is not a catalogue of a physical collection nor a list of items for sale. To locate copies of items listed in the database, we recommend consulting the Karlsruher Virtueller Katalog.
